A ilha

O Porto Santo é a segunda maior ilha da Região Autónoma da Madeira, que fica em Portugal, na Europa.

De pouco relevo, tem cerca de 42,2 km² de área e uma população média de 5.000 pessoas.

A ilha foi descoberta oficialmente pelos portugueses em 1418. E, segundo reza a história, o navegador Cristóvão Colombo habitou neste paríso.

O Porto Santo deve o seu nome por sido um "porto santo" quando portugueses, que navegavam pela costa africana, foram apanhados numa grande tempestade, que os fez alterar involuntariamente a rota. A ilha acabou por ser a salvação.

The island

Porto Santo is the second largest island of Madeira archipelago, located in Portugal, Europe. There is little relief, has approximately 42.2 square kilometers of area and an average population of 5,000 people.
