The island

Porto Santo is the second largest island of Madeira archipelago, located in Portugal, Europe.
There is little relief, has approximately 42.2 square kilometers of area and an average population of 5,000 people.
Was discovered in 1418, and the story goes, the Christopher Columbus lived on the island.
It is named for being a "port saint" when Portuguese navigators, who sailed the coast of Africa, were caught in storm, which made them change the route involuntarily. The island turned out to be salvation.

A ilha

Porto Santo é a segunda maior ilha da Região Autónoma da Madeira, que fica em Portugal, na Europa.

De pouco relevo, tem cerca de 42,2 km² de área e uma população média de 5.000 pessoas.

Foi descoberta em 1418, e, segundo reza a história, o navegador Cristóvão Colombo habitou a ilha.

Deve o seu nome por sido um "porto santo" quando navegadores portugueses, que navegavam pela costa africana, foram apanhados numa grande tempestade, que os fez alterar involuntariamente a rota. A ilha acabou por ser a salvação.

How to arrive by sea

Porto Santo Line, Porto Santo Daily Photo partner, makes trips, by sea, everyday, between Madeira island and Porto Santo island.
Starts at Funchal port, at 8 o'clock, and 2.15 hours later arrives at Porto Santo.
